I was lucky to have been given this set of kid's play/craft table and bench for free by a dear friend of mine.

Ever since the day she told me this news, my brain has been spinning like crazy just trying to figure out what I'm going to do with this and how I can make this even more functional for the next kid to enjoy.

Thus, I started researching and spending a lot of time on Pintrest for ideas until I came across some amazing projects that were done by other people and really made me want to try it out on my own.

I'll give out 3 Hints: BLACK, CHALK, THE MOST HORRIBLE SOUND EVER!

AFTER

The purpose of the transformation for this set of kid's play/craft table and bench was to add a punch of grown-up color and pattern which can be fitted to almost all interior style, especially modern farmhouse or crisp clean transitional to name a few, to give the originally all-white with bland and dull personality combination a refresh, re-purposed second chance of life.

Also, most importantly, to provide functionality of a chalkboard top for the possibility to write and draw and for kids to be imaginary and creative.

The table and the bench were refinished with several coat of Van Gogh Fossil Paint Chalk color as a base color and the stripes were done with Van Gogh Fossil Paint Chivalry color.

Both pieces were protected with a layer of Van Gogh Clear Natural Beeswax.

The table top then was painted with Rust-Oleum Chalkboard Paint Black Finish.

The bench can withhold weight up to one child and one adult sitting on it, so having 2 kids sitting side by side will be a piece of cake.

However, having kids jumping on the bench is definitely not recommended for structural and safety reason.

To clean up the writing and drawing on the chalkboard top, just simply grab a kitchen paper towel and give it a light and gentle wipe.

If any of the color chalk powder got onto the white and grey stripes area and stained the white and grey paint, just simply take out an old school white eraser and start erasing. I’ve tested the eraser cleaning method personally and the chalk powder just came off the painted area easily like magic.

This set of play/craft table and bench is perfect for mom who does not want to compromise on the interior style she is aiming for such as shabby chic, modern farmhouse, transitional, coastal cottage or girly rustic and does not want to end up with rooms filled with only bright and cheap plastic play table set.
