BEFORE
When we picked up this tall boy dresser, I was surprised to find out that it lived outdoor under a carport for about half a year.
How I knew?
The previous owner told me that he had a garage sale during summer time, and this guy was unfortunately not favoured by any of the shoppers.
He continued the sale on the internet because he intended to sell it and was too lazy and had no space for it, so the dresser never made it back to inside of the house.
Also, there were couple of dead and alive spiders living in the dresser as evidence when I was checking out the condition of the drawers, but that was not the end of it when it came to battle with my mortal enemies.
When we got home, my boyfriend helped me to take out all the drawers and give the dresser a through vacuum and wipe since it was placed outside for all this time, but that was just like opening a can of worms.
Since we disturbed a nice and warm place for the spider army to call home, there were countless small and big long-skinny-leg domestic spiders kept crawling out from all dark and hidden corners inside the dresser.
It was a freaking horrible nightmare to me!
After 15 to 20 minutes of continuous screaming and vacuuming, we finally thought that we had the spider situation under control.
We killed or sucked away total probably 20 spiders or more!
So we thought our car got lucky and didn't have to live through another spider attack like our home, we were SO wrong.
On the second day, I drove the car out for the whole day and did not notice anything weird, so at first I thought there was no spider escaped and hidden in the car.
After that day, my car was left untouched for another couple days; on the third day, when my boyfriend sat into the front passenger seat because we were going grocery shopping, he complained that spider web caught on his face and hair.
We then conducted an extensive search inside the whole car and discovered that except driver seat, the front passenger seat and back seat both driver and passenger sides were covered with strings of spider web which was so hard to notice without sufficient lighting.
The search was ended with another time-consuming labour-intensive vacuuming, but the spider which caused all the mess was nowhere to be found.
That was couple days later when we left for my parents' house, the final spider decided to show up and my boyfriend caught a glimpse of it in the corner of his eye while driving.
We, at that instance, started WWIII and did not mean to back down until we exterminated that spider.
With just couple pieces of tissues and several failed attempts in the pocket, I finally squashed it while it got stuck in between windshield and dashboard.
We could officially declare the success on the lengthy war of spider attack!
Enough said about the horror story, here comes the fun part - paint....
AFTER
The main body which includes top, front and 2 side boards of this solid pine well-built tall boy dresser was painted with van Gogh Fossil Paint Starry Night (royal blue) color.
All four areas were then moderately sanded to create distressed denim look from different shades of dark and light wash feel.
It was completed by covering with van Gogh Clear Natural Beeswax and buffed to smooth for touch.
5 drawers were painted with Chalk (vintage white) color and then heavily distressed to reveal partial of the original dark pine color.
A layer of clear natural beeswax was applied to protect. Finally, French Caffeine (dark) natural beeswax was rubbed on to add depth and history to the piece.
5 drawer pulls were sprayed painted with Rust-Oleum Specialty Metallic Gold color and lightly sanded away and toned down the shininess to tie in with the finish of the whole dresser.
This two-tone nautical themed solid pine dresser will work fantastically with farmhouse, lake cottage, transitional or even traditional style and is not limited to boy’s or girl’s bedroom.
It will for sure look amazing in master bedroom or guest bedroom as well.
