A lovely friend of mine referred a dear lady client of hers to me during spring time when I was still sneezing away like crazy over hay fever.

We chatted over texts several times regarding of a piece of furniture that's so nostalgic to her and her family that she wished to have it painted so she didn't have to give it away or throw it out.

We meant to meet in person and finalized the decision on what color and finish she preferred, but time just slipped by so fast.

Until sometime in August, we finally caught up with each other and I truly for the first time got to see the piece we've been talking about for months.

She dropped off a 5 feet tall mirror stand hand-made by her husband back in his high school era and I was amazed and speechless when I saw this beauty.

Hands down to her very talented husband, this mirror stand demonstrated such exquisite craftsmanship that I could understand why my client wanted to save it so it could be passed down in her family for generations.

Once arrived at my humble little workshop a.k.a. partial of the living room left empty purposely for my projects, I showed her some color options which are so called my signature selections include vintage white, subtle grey and moody blue.

Originally, we kind of settled on white via texts; however, when my client and her daughter saw grey in the paint can and on my IKEA glass door bookcases, not so surprising to me that she changed her mind and would like to go for grey instead.

FANTASTIC CHOICE!

By the way, I DID not paint my own IKEA bookcases, I wish I did. They came in that color, but I'm not certain if they are still available for purchase. You can see a glimpse of one in the reflection of the mirror.

AFTER

With the age of the mirror stand passing 20-year mark, original layer of lacquer put on to protect the wood initially had pretty much been worn off, so in my case, using chalk paint or fossil paint to do the paint job, I probably no need to pre-sand the piece at all, but I still did a light sanding anyway.

After that, I hand brushed the mirror stand 2 to 3 times for some areas in Van Gogh Fossil Paint Chivalry (light grey) color to fulfil the wish of my client and to create a cleaner and refresher look.

To seal and protect the piece, a layer of organic Van Gogh Clear Natural Beeswax was applied.

Finally, the mirror stand is updated to 21st century with simple but beautiful finish which can be fitted into my client's home furnishing more effortlessly.

With the approval from my client's husband and a smile on my client's daughter's face when they came pick it up, I know it will be cherished, maybe not forever, but for sure another decade or so.
