BEFORE

I stopped by a local thrift shop unintentionally on a normal weekend on my way to.. I forgot where.

The whole situation seemed to me like a reflection or first instinct.

You passed by a random thrift store, you would make a U-turn, and you would visit that shop no matter where you were heading.

DONE and DONE!

Even though, to be honest, I was not searching for anything specifically at all.

That's when the magic happened!

I don't know why but it would always work out this way.

Once I stepped into the store and started strolling down the aisle casually, I couldn't believe my eyes that there it was..  someone else's homemade masterpiece waving right at me.

After checking to see if both drawers still slide smoothly, all sides are still perfectly attached and no loose parts or anything dangling on the bottom, I finally got the approval and thumbs up to grab this baby home.

I am not exaggerating when I say I already had a clear vision of the final product in my mind the moment I laid my eyes on this nightstand at the thrift shop.

The style must be classy and elegant, the color has to be chic and modern, and the outcome will be subtle but extraordinary at the same time.

I was fortunate that this piece had no major scratches or not even a minor one nor dent and chips, so I just went straight to painting part after a light sanding with sanding sponge on the surface and a through wipe with a damp cloth a.k.a. my old sheets cut into pieces.

This well-built solid wood nightstand is hand-painted couple coats with Van Gogh Fossil Paint Chivalry Color to create a refresh, clean-line, but a bit of edgy look.

Even just painting with grey color, nowhere near any dark color palettes, the coverage is so much better than the purest color of all - white, remember my last vintage white nightstand with rose gold cup pull, it took me totally 5 coats on the top surface to stop the wood veneer from bleeding through and to get it even-toned.

However, to align my every brush stroke, I did spend quite some time to perfect how I lift my brush after each stroke.

At last, the whole piece was sanded slightly just to remove the chalky finish and also sealed and protected with a layer of Annie Sloan Clear Soft wax.

Yes! My weekly mini workout at home with buddy wax and partner cloth was completed with sore arms and legs and sweat on my face and back even on a cold winter day.

The original wood knobs, instead of spray painting them to gold or rose gold (my 2 favourite spray paint colors on the planet of earth right now), were replaced with my new-found loves - clear glass square knobs to emphasize on more of a glamorous and charming final look.

Now this baby is ready to go!

It's perfect for bedrooms with nautical theme, beach style, transitional taste, or even contemporary feel and of course shabby chic and farmhouse look.
